Educators have been learning how to use the power of Kingian Nonviolence to transform their classrooms into communities of  peace and understanding. There has never been a more urgent need to consider how Dr. King’s principles of nonviolence and strategies to reconcile conflict  can be harnessed to support the needs of all learners.

Nonviolent Schools RI 's 2024 Summer Institute is the premiere professional development experience for educators who desire to create a more inclusive, community-based learning community. The Institute is a powerful, multi-disciplinary gathering designed for Kindergarten-college educators, support staff, and school leaders. It includes impactful content using inquiry-based techniques and activities to inspire educators in building equitable and just learning communities.  Participants will enjoy an experience with numerous opportunities for dialogue, sharing, and learning from others, and will come away with lessons and activities to inspire students of all ages to practice a nonviolence philosophy and to address conflict using nonviolent strategies.

About NSRI

Testimonials from Our previous Institutes

Empathy and Understanding

“Since I began this [training] I feel that I have become more understanding to others wants and needs. I take the time to listen to what they have to say, both personally and professionally…I realize that not everything can be solved in one day all the time, that there is a process.”

The NSRI Training Team

"The Nonviolent Schools RI training team  is well-prepared, engaging, friendly, and extremely knowledgable. I found each session to be a time for me to think, be challenged, and to have a space to openly express my thoughts."

Building Cohesive Communities

Building Cohesive Communities

“Overall, I found that one of the major positives of this experience was coming together as a group for a common purpose. Regardless of our roles, teacher assistants, general and special educators, unified arts teachers, and an administrator, all came to learn how to create a peaceful community at [our school].”

Practicing Mindfulness

Building Cohesive Communities

"Learning mindfulness practices and de-escalation techniques will help my students, and me, when I bring these strategies back to my classroom. I enjoyed learning from the trainers."

Improving Climate and Culture

“As a teacher in the world we live in today, it can feel daunting to try to make an impact on some situations. For example, we are nationally facing a crisis of school shootings and racism that can make a teacher feel scared sometimes. Finding powerful ways for making meaningful changes can be discovered through nonviolence.”

Learning How to Address Conflicts

“I have learned so much more than I knew about Martin Luther King and can now see [the training] isn’t just a history lesson but a way for all of us to live our lives and deal with conflict.”
